School of Sustainable Development

Message from the Dean

Gary Thompson, (Ph.D, P.Geo, M.Sc.)
Dean, School of Sustainable Development
Green energy resources, such as wind, solar, and hydro, are critical components in addressing the threats of climate change, and the green energy sector is growing rapidly. From wind energy to electric vehicles, changes are occurring as organizations and industries seek to operate differently with a focus on sustainable, environmentally friendly operations. And as demands for green energy technologies develop, there is a corresponding demand for skilled workers who possess the knowledge and expertise required to service this sector of the economy.

Programs in the School of Sustainable Development are designed to develop this expertise and support local employment opportunities for the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, locally, nationally, and globally. Furthermore, the school is dedicated to supporting initiatives within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador that promote sustainable development and align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Through partnerships with local communities, businesses, and governmental organizations, we strive to leverage our expertise and resources to address regional challenges and opportunities. By fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building activities, we aim to contribute to the economic prosperity, social well-being, and environmental stewardship of Newfoundland and Labrador.
