STEPHENVILLE, NL – The best and the brightest are gathering in Halifax today to compete in the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition – Atlantic Canada, and among the hopefuls for the title is College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Business Administration student Scott Butt.

Butt was named Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2013 Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champion on Wednesday by the national charitable organization Enactus Canada, a community of student, academic and business leaders which enables progress through entrepreneurial action.

Butt received the title because he impressively balances the demands of the full-time course load of CNA’s Business Administration program with the pressure of running a successful company. He started his furniture and art production company Rustic Creations last year, and as a master craftsman and artist with over 20 years of experience, produces one-of-a kind custom creations.

According to Mary Vaughan, CNA’s Dean of Business and Information Technology, students gain valuable experience through these types of competitions. She says after seeing his presentation first-hand, it was no surprise when Butt was named provincial champion.

“Scott is well known in the business community for his hard work, innovative thinking and strong business skills. To be a provincial champion is true recognition of these skills,” says Vaughan.

“Scott has exceptional business ideas and his interpersonal skills make him an outstanding entrepreneur. His business, Rustic Creations, is like no other I have ever seen. He is an incredible artist and an entrepreneur and we are all so proud of him!”

Butt flew to Halifax this week to compete for the regional title against three other student entrepreneur provincial champions from Atlantic Canada. The competition takes place on March 1 and he was accompanied by a number of his teammates from Bay St. George campus and Enactus faculty advisor, Linda Burt.

Should he successfully impress the regional judges and take the Regional title, Butt will move on to the 2013 Enactus Canada National Exposition on May 8 in Toronto, ON. The national champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and represent Canada at the international level of competition, the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in Cancun, Mexico from Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
