Officials at College of the North Atlantic’s Engineering Technology Centre (Ridge Road campus) have been made aware that a document containing personal information about students who had purchased lockers at that campus had been inadvertently made available on a shared folder accessible to all students in the building.
The document contained each student’s name, ID number, phone number, program of study, locker number, the serial number of their lock, and the lock combination. The file was originally posted to the folder on August 22, and was periodically updated with information as students purchased lockers.
The document was taken down immediately after it was discovered and the college has taken steps to mitigate any further potential risk to students, including adding extra security at the building and securing all lockers. It is not yet known how many times the document might have been accessed.
The college has contacted all students affected and have asked these students to come to the campus between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. this weekend (Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23) to change locks, and at their request, change locker locations. Additional learner services staff will be at the building on the weekend to assist. Students unable to change their locks over the weekend, may do so at their convenience next week.
