CNA and CNA-Q receive marketing and communications awards
7/6/2010 9:47:52 AM
Student from CNA’s Graphic Design program were winners at this year’s IABC Pinnacle awards gala. Winners included, from left to right, Alan Grant, Sarah Norman, John Barry (instructor), Aleasha Kettle, and Kayla Hoskins.
Students of College of the North Atlantic (CNA) and two staff members at College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) picked up several awards through the annual International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Pinnacle Awards gala, and the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals Award announcements.
Student Pinnacle Award winners included Sarah Norman, of Lumsden, in the Communications Creative: Publication Design category; Alan Grant, of Mount Pearl, in the Communications Creative: Photography category; while Aleasha Kettle, of St. John’s, Kayla Hoskins of Britannia, and Grant each took home awards in the Other Graphic Design category.
“This award is a great accomplishment for me during my year at CNA. I have to thank my instructors J (John) and Ray for pushing us to send in work that we had created during the 2009 year. The skills that I learned from my first year at graphic design helped me a great deal when creating my Font poster,” said Hoskins.
The students submitted work that had been produced for class projects in the Graphic Design program at CNA's Prince Philip Drive campus. All entries were submitted in both printed and digital formats.
“Our students look forward to the IABC Pinnacle Awards Student Competition every year, and each year the number of submissions, and the quality of the work improves. All of the students who submitted work should be congratulated for their initiative and the quality of their submissions. The winners - Sarah, Aleasha and Kayla from first year, and Alan from second year, should be acknowledged for their outstanding design work. They are already on the way to solid careers in the graphic design industry. The graphic arts faculty at CNA is very proud of them,” stated John Barry, coordinating instructor for Graphic Design.
Keith Williams and Carla Eskow, two instructors at CNA-Q, and six of their students won in the special publications category for their reference guide entitled From Acacia to Ziziphus: Arabian Plants to Nourish the Body and Earth; a beautiful reference guide with colour photos of some 21 species of plants. The book provides a summary of each plant, including where it grows, what it needs to thrive, its appearance and physical composition, and its medicinal and environmental properties. It also provides a scientific profile and references to scientific studies undertaken with each plant.
The book was researched and authored (including photographs) by Williams and Eskow with the layout and design by Mary Anne Skill, graphic designer in CNA-Q’s marketing and public relations department.
An additional award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (www.amcpros.com) was recently awarded to CNA’s Qatar Project Office in Newfoundland and Labrador. An image taken by the office’s Public Relations Specialist, Tanya Alexander, was awarded Gold for Photography. The winning entry is titled The Corniche; it captures a night scene of the popular boardwalk found at Doha, Qatar’s harbour front.
