PanGeo Subsea Inc. announced today the creation of the PanGeo Subsea Scholarship Program for the Marine Institute of Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic.

The scholarships were created to mark the commercialization of the company’s first 3D acoustic imaging tool called the Acoustic Corer™.

Moya Cahill, President of PanGeo Subsea, said it was important to recognize this significant milestone in the company’s history.

“Our company chose to create a scholarship program for several reasons. We felt it was important to make a contribution to our community and to support academic programs that encourage study in the innovative areas of science and engineering in which we work. Additionally, many of the employees of PanGeo Subsea are graduates of Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic.”

The newly announced program supports two scholarships valued at five hundred dollars each for Marine Institute students in their third or fourth year of study for a Bachelor’s degree in the ocean technology program. The scholarship for the College of the North Atlantic is given to a third year student completing the three year program in Software Engineering Technology (Co-op). All scholarships are based on academic merit and PanGeo Subsea intends to continue the program on an annual basis. The scholarships will be presented at ceremonies at both schools on November 19 and November 20.

PanGeo Subsea is bringing leading edge scientific concepts in the areas of 3D and 4D acoustic technology to commercialization for application predominantly in the oil and gas industry. The company’s intellectual property was founded on twenty years of academic and applied industrial research in acoustics and geophysics. The team consists of highly experienced engineers, mathematicians, physicists and other professionals with unique and substantive experience in the development of acoustic tools. These people work at offices in St John’s which also house the technology lab and sonar lab. The company also has an operations office in Stavanger, Norway.
