Doha, Qatar – Qatar Petroleum, the State of Qatar’s oil and natural gas company, has announced a new scholarship program at College of the North Atlantic-Qatar. The Language Studies scholarship will allow Qatari nationals, who do not meet the language requirements, to improve their English language skills so that they may pursue their education.

The announcement was made by Mr. Abdulla Al Sahlawi, Manager, Corporate Training, who was accompanied by Dr. Harald Jorch, President, College of the North Atlantic-Qatar and Ms. Enid Strickland, Vice-President, Academics.

“We need to eliminate the barriers. Students who lack the language skills will be given the opportunity not just to gain language skills but also to develop academic and occupational competencies that are necessary for today’s competitive workplace,” said Ms. Strickland.

“These students will become the future employees of the Qatari workforce and will contribute to its sustainable social and economic development.”

The idea for a language-based scholarship was approved at the annual Joint Oversight Board meeting in June. While the scholarship will be administered by CNA-Q, the college welcomes corporate donations. Qatar Petroleum, with a donation of 250,000 Qatar Riyal is the first company to contribute to the new fund.

“Qatar Petroleum has always been proud to support College of the North Atlantic and its initiatives in ensuring the education of Qatari students,” said Mr. Al Sahlawi.

College of the North Atlantic – Qatar works to ensure that all citizens can participate in higher education. The launch of this scholarship program will ensure that many students are given access to the education that will shape their future.
