Thirty six employers combined with 1,200 students, alumni and guests, makes for one successful career fair.

On Oct. 2, College of the North Atlantic (CNA), in partnership with the Memorial University Career and Graduate School Fair, held the second annual Career Fair at its Prince Philip Drive campus in St. John’s.

The purpose of the event was to discuss career opportunities in various fields.

Employers who attended the event represented a cross section of industries from oil and gas and information technology to hospitality and health care. Several industry leaders from these fields were in attendance and overall the event was deemed a success.

“The main purpose of the CNA Career Fair was to allow students, alumni and employers to gather in a friendly, informal environment and talk face to face about career opportunities,” says Kelly Jones, chair of the Career Fair Planning Committee.

“Employers had the opportunity to meet CNA's highly sought after students and graduates. As well as having the opportunity to speak face to face with potential employees, companies benefited from having their company profile, contacts and logo displayed in the Career Fair handbook.”

Jones says this event is beneficial to all students and alumni because they meet with a multitude of companies in one convenient location.

“Additionally, students use this opportunity to make contacts, gain knowledge about a particular industry, and hopefully land the perfect job and career.”

She says the committee was amazed with the fabulous response to the career fair this year.

“We reached our registration goal quickly and we reached capacity in the initial stages of registration, demonstrating that CNA students are in high demand,” continues Jones. “Employers recognize they are knowledgeable, well trained and highly skilled to meet the challenges of today’s marketplace.”

In addition, a number of employers who were unable to attend due to the event being at capacity have been invited back to the campus to deliver recruitment presentations at a later date.

Jones says the committee received such positive feedback from employers, exhibitors and participants that the college is looking at hosting similar events throughout the year.

“Due to the success of this event, we’re looking forward to having more career related events for students. We are about to begin planning a virtual event that CNA alumni and students from all campuses can take part in regardless of their geographic location.”
More information about this event will be available at a later date on the college’s website at www.cna.nl.ca.
