Jean Madill is the new president of Newfoundland and Labrador’s public college.

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has begun its 2006-07 academic year with a new president.

Jean Madill hails from Nova Scotia, though she lived in western Canada for nearly three decades while employed in the Canadian post-secondary system. She has worked with the University of Toronto, the University of Saskatchewan, Mount Royal College in Calgary, Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Grande Prairie Regional College in northern Alberta and most recently, at Lethbridge College in Alberta.

“I have a broad breadth of experience from academics to administration and have looked after everything from boilers to counselling to academic programs,” says Madill.

The new president begins her employment with CNA on September 10 at the college’s Headquarters in Stephenville and is looking forward to the move – personally and professionally – for many reasons.

“I am honoured and delighted to be joining CNA,” she says. “I am excited at the opportunities that exist for the college and the province and I look forward to being part of that exciting future.

“The college community and the people of the province have already been so warm and welcoming. My husband Doug and I are especially looking forward to settling down and being an integral part of the college and community.”

Madill says she is a firm believer in what the college and the province have to offer.

“With the assistance and guidance of an excellent senior leadership team, I hope to market the college nationally and help to position Newfoundland and Labrador as the greatest place to learn and live.”
