College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Film and Video Production program is pleased to host the Stephenville portion of The Nickel Independent Film Festival Road Show on April 20 at 7 p.m., in the Lecture Theatre of the Fowlow Building, Bay St. George campus.
The event will showcase the best of recent local and international independent films, with just $5 admission.
“This promises to be a great evening of Newfoundland independent film,” says Marty Benoit, coordinating instructor for the Film and Video Production program at CNA, “and we are very excited to have The Nickel in Stephenville for the first time.”
Conceived in 2001 by filmmaker Roger Maunder, the festival is named after the first theatre in the province to show talking pictures – the Nickel Theatre. It has grown not only as a venue for local filmmakers to showcase their work, but includes actors’ workshops, question and answer periods with filmmakers, showcases of local theatre pieces, and often, local music and readings between screenings.
The Stephenville screening begins at 7 p.m., with reception to follow.
