Mike Daughtery of Kippens is the winner of the Hockey Day in Canada jersey contest held by CNA. He beat out over 700 entrants from across the country.

Mike Daugherty of Kippens, Bay St. George is the winner of College of the North Atlantic’s hockey jersey draw. The jersey – an authentic licensed Hockey Day in Canada sweater, size large – was signed by Ron MacLean and Don Cherry when they were in Stephenville for the Hockey Day in Canada celebrations last month.

Daugherty saw the contest advertised on CNA’s website shortly after the Hockey Day weekend.

“I am so surprised!” he says. “I entered the contest back then and just forgot about it.”

Daugherty’s entry beat out nearly 800 submissions from across the country – from as far north as Iqaluit and as far west as British Columbia.

Jerseys like this one have been auctioned live and on the Internet – going for thousands of dollars. But Daugherty’s not interested in selling his newfound treasure.

“I’ll be framing this,” he says. “There’s no way I’m selling it.”

The contest ended yesterday, February 27.

Thank you to all those who entered. Stay tuned for similar contests to come…
