Burin, March 15, 2005 – Dr. Christoph Grabmayr, Consul General and Trade Commissioner of Austria to Canada, will be visiting College of the North Atlantic in Burin to deliver a presentation to International Business students.
The Montreal-based commissioner, one of only two Austrian commissioners to Canada, will speak with the students in Burin, as well as those in St. Anthony via videoconference, on Thursday morning, March 17. It is hoped the presentation will also be recorded for sharing with other business students throughout the college.
“This is a great opportunity for our International Business students, as well as the students in our other business programs,” says Burin Campus Administrator Dr. Michael Graham.
“Through this visit by the commissioner, our students will hear first-hand about the rewards and challenges of doing business overseas from someone who helps organize business relations for Austria with Canada. We’re very pleased to have Dr. Grabmayr here as there are many opportunities of mutual benefit to explore in the Burin area.”
The morning presentation will be followed by a tour of the campus facility and discussions with senior campus administration regarding possible academic and training linkages with Austrian colleges and universities.
Dr. Grabmayr will then experience a luncheon of traditional Newfoundland delicacies prepared by the commercial cooking students. Later in the afternoon the college has arranged a meeting for the commissioner with representatives of the economic development organizations for the Burin region and St. Pierre et Miquelon.
To complete the day’s visit, the commissioner will receive a tour of the Burin peninsula, and will return to the campus for a social with college faculty and a dinner reception later that evening.
