Helping grads find employment

July 15, 2003 – Most graduates from College of the North Atlantic have no difficulty finding employment. But for those who do, the college has just launched a new Graduate Employment Initiative, funded by the Department of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education through the Student Investment and Opportunity Corporation.
The program, administered by the college, provides a 60% wage subsidy towards the starting salary of an approved position, to a maximum of $10,000 over 52 weeks.
Graduates are eligible if they have completed a program at College of the North Atlantic (minimum program duration of one year) within the past two years, and have been seeking work in their field of study for a minimum of three months. The applicant has to be currently unemployed or underemployed (less than 20 hours per week or working in an area not related to their field of study). Preference will be given to non-EI eligible graduates (individuals currently not receiving EI benefits, have not received EI benefits in the past three years, or have not received EI maternity or parental benefits within the last five years).
Application to the program can be initiated by either the graduate or employer, however approval will only be considered when applications from both have been matched.
Application forms are available at any of the college’s 17 campuses or through the college’s website at: http://ces.northatlantic.nf.ca/students/news/news.asp. Completed applications can be returned to any College of the North Atlantic campus.
