St. John’s, NL - College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is thrilled to announce expansion of its climate change and sustainability programming. CNA thanks ExxonMobil Canada Properties, as operator of the Hebron project and the Hebron co-venturers (Chevron Canada Limited, Suncor Energy Inc., Equinor Canada Ltd. and Oil and Gas Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador) for an extraordinary $10 million investment over the next five years. CNA is set to transform its resources, enhance infrastructure, and unlock new potential in delivering top-tier education in these critical fields.

This is the largest donation in CNA’s history and will propel the college to the forefront of sustainability education, empowering students and faculty to drive meaningful change in our global community.

With Hebron’s generous donation, CNA will advance scientific discovery and knowledge, providing a focal point for educational programming concerned with meeting the needs of future generations. These innovative efforts will bring together students, educators, scientists, and researchers to foster interdisciplinary and innovative solutions to climate and sustainability challenges.

“It is important to provide valuable education and training opportunities to students to support the future of our province. Education, industry collaboration and instructional support systems are key elements of achieving this success," said ExxonMobil Canada President, Kerry Moreland. “We are pleased to support College of the North Atlantic’s expansion of educational programming by investing in training and new skill development.”

CNA President and CEO, Elizabeth Kidd, was equally enthusiastic.

“Hebron’s significant investment represents a crucial step forward in the effort to build a sustainable and resilient future for Newfoundland and Labrador, and beyond,” Kidd said. “CNA is already well-positioned to support our province’s green economy as many existing programs in engineering technology, industrial trades, information technology, and other fields are already closely aligned with the skills and knowledge needed for new green industries. This donation will help prepare our workers for the careers of the future and ensure that Newfoundland and Labrador remains at the forefront of the green economy.”

Kidd explained CNA’s vision for its climate change and sustainability programming spans the entire college community, focusing on five core objectives; Teaching and Training, Applied Research, Partnerships, Outreach and Student Activities.

By serving as a hub for climate change and sustainability knowledge sharing, skill development, training, and applied research, CNA will play a crucial role in securing the province’s future. It will address current and future skills development needs, ensuring students receive the precise training required to thrive in a sustainable economy.
