Jim Byrne, left, Instructor in the Electronics Engineering Technology program and local representative of the CCTT, presents Scott Anstey with a cheque for $1,000.

February 6, 2003 – Scott Anstey is one of two students in the country to win the 2002/03 Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT)/Manulife Financial scholarship.

The second year Electronics Engineering Technology student is attending Corner Brook campus of College of the North Atlantic (CNA). He says the $1,000 scholarship will help greatly with his studies, as he plans to purchase a home computer.

“I’m quite happy. I’ll put this money to good use,” said Anstey.

Each year CCTT and Manulife Canada.award a $1,000 scholarship to two students undertaking studies for a technician or technologist diploma in applied science or engineering technology. The student must also have a parent who is or has been a member of a provincial association of the council, such as the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland Inc. (AETTN), of which Anstey’s father is a member.

It is through his father that Scott discovered the existence of the scholarship.

“I had heard something about it before, but my father came home and told me that I could qualify,” he says.

“So I sent in my transcripts and a letter from the school (CNA) saying that I was enrolled full-time.”

He was notified only recently of his win, and expects to receive his award shortly. In the meantime, Anstey is concentrating on completing his studies. He plans to go on with his engineering studies after graduation from College of the North Atlantic.

“I am hoping to go to Lakehead University to complete my degree.”

Anstey hopes to use his CNA diploma to transfer to Lakehead with advanced standing. College of the North Atlantic has formal agreements and arrangements with many colleges and universities throughout North America and the globe, through which credits from CNA are applied toward degrees or advanced diplomas.
