Striving to inspire and engage youth across the province, College of the North Atlantic (CNA) encourages learning and embraces technology and innovation as part of its students’ hands-on learning experience.
CNA has once again partnered with NATI (Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries) to bring together nearly 400 Grade 9 students for a
Youth in Technology event being held Friday, May 3 at the Prince Philip Drive campus in St. John’s.
Building on 11 years of success, this year’s event brings together: CNA, NATI, the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA), the Association for New Canadians (ANC) and many other private, public partners and stakeholders, each with a goal to learn, share and demonstrate innovation practices from across the province.
“We are really excited to partner with NATI for Innovation Week 2019,” said Stephen Warren, CNA’s Dean of Business & Information Technology. “This year we will be hosting the signature event,
Youth in Technology, at the Prince Phillip Drive campus, fostering interactions with some of most cutting-edge tech companies in the province.”
The event will feature a hands-on session with Philippe Landry, Cisco Networking Academy Manager for Canada — who will share insights on the growing demand in the area of Cybersecurity with practical demonstrations in both coding and wireless security. The event will also provide students an opportunity to meet leaders and mentors working in start-up communities and the environmental sector, while embracing new technology aids and much more!
Throughout the day, students will participate in three 30-minute interactive session, featuring CNA staff members, James Pelley –
Alien Wireless Game; Pranjal Patra – Mindcraft -
An hour of programming; and Greg Wells, an instructor from CNA’s
Video Game Art and Design program.
The Youth in Technology event will also see participating partners: Axiom Emerging Technologies, Brilliant Labs, Cisco Cybersecurity, Celtx, Mysa, Sequence Bio, Seaformatics, Sucseed, and Virtual Marine.
