Five temporary Resource Facilitators at College of the North Atlantic (CNA) have been advised they will not be extended beyond their current contract dates. Despite reports to the contrary, students supported by these positions will continue to receive services from remaining Resource Facilitators and Disability Service Coordinators.
The five affected Resource Facilitator positions are located at the Prince Philip Drive (three), Ridge Road (one) and Seal Cove (one) campuses of the St. John’s region.
“Statements that have been made do not accurately reflect the current staffing situation or the process being undertaken by the college,” said Ann Marie Vaughan, CNA’s President and CEO. “The college utilizes a staff-to-student ratio for the allocation of our Resource Facilitators. Staffing adjustments are based on a review of students who are registered with the Disability Services Office and also take into consideration enrolment reductions for the upcoming academic year.”
The college continues to review its model for the provision of services to students with disabilities to ensure resources are assigned when and where student demand requires them. The positions currently being impacted are temporary positions and will be adjusted based on need.
“The college will continue to do everything it can to ensure that services are in place to meet the needs of its students,” said President Vaughan. “If the need for these positions is required in the future, we will address that need directly.”
