College truck features unique design
3/28/2007 9:24:09 AM
CNA’s new transport truck with college branding outside the Heavy Equipment School.
College of the North Atlantic (CNA) recently created a vehicle decal for a transport truck that will be used to create awareness about the college province wide.
“An organization’s logo is one of its primary marketing tools. We had three primary objectives for this project,” says Chris Yeo, coordinator for the transport truck project.
“They were: to create a strong college brand that enhances the image of CNA as a ‘First Choice’ institution; to identify, plan and effectively manage key communication vehicles to attract and retain students; and to increase focus and effective promotion of new and emerging alternative program/training approaches and target markets.”
The starting point was to synchronize all of the college’s vehicles to present a consistent image. Each of the college’s 17 campuses has its own vehicle, however there were no procedures in place for applying logos or graphics.
“We had a potential medium for advertising that was untapped. So we created a design that would incorporate all of the vehicles within the college, including a newly purchased transport truck and trailer,” continues Yeo.
“We started by using some colours from our college logo as a foundation. The flowing lines in the design are representative of the wave in the logo. Our graphic designer had previous experience working with vehicle branding and we utilized his skills in this concept.”
Graphic Artist Barrie Noble incorporated the graphical concepts the college uses in print advertising and on its web site into the design to ensure a consistent brand.
“We were looking for a clean, precise, hip, attractive design and succeeded in our goal. We hoped to create an image that would garner instant recognition, so we developed a design that was simplistic, yet unique,” he says.
In addition they incorporated the college’s tag line, “We’re so much more”, as the theme for the project.
“We felt this was an important message to deliver to our stakeholders as the college was once viewed specifically as a trade school. To create public awareness we have undertaken a Marketing and Communications strategy with this slogan. It is a simple but effective campaign that is reaching our audience at provincial, national and international levels.”
The college hopes to reach a number of demographics with this initiative, including future students, current students and the business community throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Our transport truck makes numerous trips across the province each week and we believe we have utilized the truck’s full potential by incorporating this unique design.”
