College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has incorporated the popular social networking application Facebook into its student recruitment and marketing strategies and launched its official Facebook page this week – www.cna.nl.ca/facebook.

CNA decided to create a Facebook page after a search of the college’s name on the social media site turned up more than 500 already existing College of the North Atlantic Facebook sites.

“There are groups for students from various campuses, groups for employees, groups for alumni… you name it and it already exists,” says Glenda McCarthy, the college’s Public Relations Assistant who played a lead role in developing the Facebook page for CNA.

“We wanted a way to be able to link all of these existing sites, as well as introduce the college, its programs and its services, to a whole new audience. An official Facebook site is a great way to accomplish this.”

The college put together a team consisting of members of the Marketing and Communications department and Student Recruitment and Enrollment Services to develop the social media presence.

“The Facebook page is another tool which students can use to access information about College of the North Atlantic,” says Shirley Woodward, Manager of Student Recruitment and Enrollment Services. “On our Facebook page, we’ve included a wealth of information for potential and current students including our school brochures, the distance learning brochure, the college academic calendar and viewbook, as well as links to our programs and services guide and directly to student services.”

The site also includes promotional photos, videos and audio files, with the intention that more features will be added as the site expands.

“As social media changes, the college too must adapt to reach our intended audience,” says Stephen Lee, the college’s Manager of Marketing and Communications. “It’s great to see the college have an official presence on Facebook, and I’d like to acknowledge the tremendous effort put into this project by our marketing and communications team and by our colleagues in student recruitment.”
