The CNA Cupcakes raised more than $5,000 for the 2011 Relay For Life in Stephenville.
The CNA Cupcakes for the Cure have made a lasting impression on their local Relay For Life.
Composed of employees from Headquarters and the Bay St. George campus along with some of their children, the team has participated in all eight relays held in Stephenville. While the team’s members have changed from year to year, Joy St. Croix has been their captain since the beginning.
“Every member of the team has had a family member or friend affected by cancer, and this year was special,” says St. Croix. “This year we were joined by a survivor – first time participant Yvonne Barrington.”
St. Croix says the Cupcakes consider the Relay for Life a time to have fun and spend some time together but mainly to reflect on those affected by cancer, to remember their loved ones who have lost the battle, and to raise money to help find a cure.
“Each year we enjoy getting together to create costumes,” says St. Croix. “Our team name and theme is about keeping fun in life, and everyone, young and old, loves cupcakes.”
This year, along with each member’s individual sponsors, they also raised money by selling cupcakes, raffling off a homemade quilt, and organized a chicken dinner take-out, hockey pools, and a 50/50 draw.
The team has raised a total of more than $20,000 over the past eight years and St. Croix says they’ve enjoyed every minute of it. “This year we took home two trophies. We won for Top Team Fundraiser by raising $5,306 and also took the trophy for Best Team Theme. We also sold 120 luminaries, raising another $600 for the relay.”
St. Croix says their success wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm of their supporters. “The team would like to thank CNA and all our co-workers who helped us make this a sweet success!”
