CNA-Q celebrates 6th Annual Graduation
2/7/2011 2:48:33 PM
June 23, 2010, marked the sixth graduation ceremony for College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Middle East campus, with a record number of graduates. College of the North Atlantic-Qatar’s (CNA-Q) Class of 2010 comprised 335 graduates, including 196 Qatari nationals and students from 27 other countries.
Interim CNA-Q President Enid Strickland was joined by H.E Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, Minister of State for Energy & Industrial Affairs for Qatar; The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; Bruce Hollett, Interim President, CNA; college executive; faculty and families in celebrating the special day with graduates.
For the second time in as many years CNA-Q invited two valedictorians to address the audience. Abdur Rahman Shamsi, Engineering Technology and Huda Ali Nooh, Business Studies, shared their experiences at CNA-Q over the past years.
“CNA-Q has not only been an exemplary post secondary institution, but an all-encompassing ‘second home’ that nurtures its children from the moment they enter to the day it sets them out to setup their own homes,” Abdur shared.
“CNA-Q enjoys the position of the strong foundation that has shaped our personalities, enhanced our skills and instilled in us the professionalism in handling our day-to-day lives.”
Fellow valedictorian Huda Ali Nooh echoed the sentiment, speaking to valued relationships as well as education.
“What I find unique in our college are the instructors! And their relationship with us, which was friendly, very respectful and understanding and the way that they taught us made us successful students – in our studies and our lives,” said Huda.
This year saw graduates from four program areas including: Health Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology and Business Studies, in programs ranging from Office Administration to Mechanical Engineering Technology, Environmental Health Technology to Computer Support Specialist.
The Honourable Dr. Darin King, Minister of Education for Newfoundland and Labrador, brought greetings on behalf of the provincial government.
“You are graduating at an exciting time in the history of your country, a time of unprecedented change and advancement. The future is wide open for you, your opportunities are limitless,” said King.
“As the sixth graduating class of College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, you represent that exciting future. You will reap the benefits of your education as your future unfolds.”
