Salary Information

CG39 - $70,434.00 - $78,824.20 per annum

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Academic Development and Planning, the Instructional Design Specialist is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and improving high-quality online and distributed learning resources for adult learners. The instructional design specialist will:

  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop online and distributed learning courses and instructional materials. 
  • Apply instructional design principles and adult learning practices to create engaging, learner-centred educational resources. 
  • Organize and structure course content to ensure it is clear, accessible, and supports student success. 
  • Design learning activities that encourage student participation, practice, and meaningful feedback. 
  • Develop assessments that align with course learning outcomes and effectively measure student learning. 
  • Prepare course design documents, project plans, course outlines, and other development documentation. 
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, Instructional Designers, Media Development staff, and other stakeholders throughout the course development process. 
  • Provide advice and guidance to faculty on instructional design, online teaching practices, educational technologies, and course development. 
  • Support the implementation of quality assurance and course review processes to ensure courses meet College standards and accessibility requirements. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing courses based on learner feedback, instructional best practices, and emerging technologies. 
  • Research current trends and best practices in instructional design, online learning, and educational technology to support continuous improvement. 
  • Develop and deliver training, resources, or workshops to support faculty and staff in course development and online teaching. 
  • Perform other related duties in support of instructional design, course development, and distributed learning initiatives, as required.

     

Screening Criteria

  • A degree in Education, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or Multimedia (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Recent, related experience in instructional design, curriculum development, adult education, online learning, educational technology, or a combination of these areas.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, learning technologies, accessibility standards, quality assurance practices, and project management related to course development.
  • Knowledge of software applications related to online/multimedia course development. 
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks.
  • Professionalism.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information.
  • Relationship building skills.

Conditions of Acceptance

The position may require occasional travel, as needed, with requirements determined in consultation with departmental management.
