Salary Information
CG24 - $48,505.60 - $53,414.40 per annum.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The Trades Worker I is responsible for maintenance, repair and troubleshooting work near the apprentice level in the building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical trades to ensure efficient operation.
- Installs and/or repairs offices, doors, windows, glass, locks, and office furniture such as desks, bookcases, shelving etc.
- Installation of flooring including Commercial vinyl flooring, laminate and vinyl baseboard.
- Installation of surveillance cameras, running of associated data wiring, surface mount conduit and junction boxes.
- Plastering and painting of a variety of wall surfaces, interior and exterior to maintain buildings in good condition through preventative maintenance.
- Operate forklift occasionally.
- Work at heights and will be required to complete fall arrest training and recertification.
- Performs minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, tubes.
- Performs masonry related duties such as repairs/replaces or installs brick, concrete blocks, paving stones, ceramic floors and wall tiles; Participates in the repair.
- Performs medium to small renovation/construction as it relates to requirements to deliver new and changing programs within the college.
- Operates power tools including table saws, electric drills, circular saw etc.
- Completes work orders, filling building supply orders and delivering goods to applicable buildings.
- Ensures that all safety requirements are followed in conducting day to day maintenance and renovation.
- Performs annual maintenance checks on various pieces of equipment and/or building structure; may be required.
Screening Criteria
- High School supplemented by courses in a trade from a Postsecondary Institution or completion of a registered Trades Apprentice.
- Equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and trade.
- Knowledge of accepted trade practices, codes, and related safety issues.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS).

Conditions of Offer
- When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
- Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 License.
- Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
Conditions of Acceptance
- Lifting or moving objects over 50 lbs., is required occasionally for such tasks as carrying gyprock, moving furniture, lifting materials and tool boxes.
- Required to stand, walk, drive and climb for extended periods of time during work activities to bring materials to sites and to climb ladders to do repairs.
- Requirement to obtain and maintain Forklift Certification.
- Travel to various campuses within NL to preform duties. This will require overnight stay, at times extending for a full working week duration.
