Duties and Responsibilities
The School of Sustainable Development is seeking a Learning Design Specialist to support the continued development of curriculum and instructional resources for CNA's green economy and innovation programs. This position will support the integration of innovative teaching, storytelling, experiential learning, and immersive media approaches into sustainability programming.
Working collaboratively with faculty researchers and academic teams, the successful candidate will help design engaging, high-quality learning experiences using curriculum development, educational media, and adult learning principles. The role will also support the exploration and piloting of immersive learning technologies to inform future curriculum and instructional design initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Learning Design Specialist will:
- Design and develop learning modules, micro-credentials, and instructional resources aligned with sustainability and workforce training priorities.
- Integrate digital storytelling, experiential learning, and media-enhanced approaches into curriculum and instructional design.
- Support the development, testing, and refinement of immersive and simulation-based learning technologies and instructional prototypes, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), simulation, and spatial computing.
- Develop sample learning assets and instructional materials for classroom, industry, and partner use.
- Create faculty resources, including templates, rubrics, and instructional toolkits to support innovative teaching practices.
- Deliver workshops and coaching sessions to support faculty capacity in learning design and educational technology.
- Prepare implementation roadmaps, documentation, and knowledge transfer materials to support future program growth and sustainability.
- Support collaboration with industry, community, and technology partners through presentations, demonstrations, and project discussions.
- Assist in the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, and project documentation related to emerging technologies and pilot initiatives.
- Evaluate emerging learning technologies and provide recommendations to support CNA's workforce training and sustainability programming.
- Other related duties as required.
Screening Criteria
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Journalism, Instructional Design, or related field (equivalencies may be considered).
- Experience in curriculum development or course design in post-secondary or workforce training settings.
- Experience developing and/or editing educational media or video content for instructional use.
- Experience integrating storytelling, media production, or digital content into curriculum or faculty development initiatives.
- Experience developing, supporting, or implementing immersive learning technologies (e.g., VR, AR, MR, simulation, or spatial computing) for education, training, or workforce development.
- Experience implementing Universal Design for Learning or Accessibility Standards in a classroom and/or organization (asset).
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional design principles.
- Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles.
- Knowledge of instructional content development, including media production and digital storytelling, and the application of immersive technologies to support learning and workforce training outcomes.
- Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of faculty and students.
- Ability to communicate complex information in a clear, concise, and understandable manner to support diverse audience needs.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, industry, and external partners.
- Ability to foster and deliver a positive student learning experience.
