Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of Customized and Continuous Learning (CCL) is seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified individuals to assist with the delivery of the upcoming Prospecting Practicum course. The Instructional Assistant will support the lead instructor with field activities and ensuring participant safety.
This 2-day course is designed to further develop the skills, competencies, and adaptability acquired in the Introduction to Prospecting course and required to participate fully in the mineral potential of Newfoundland and Labrador. Participants will review rock and mineral photography, learn various sampling techniques, conduct geophysical operations on a preconstructed grid, and set up and traverse a grid to collect and secure samples (rock and soil) for geochemical analysis. Participants will also engage in trenching operations and associated activities. Participants are expected to take part in all activities associated with the prospecting practicum.

- Rock and Mineral Photography.
- Geophysical Operations.
- Outcrop Travers.
- Trenching Operations.
- Geochemical Traverse.
Screening Criteria
- Mining Engineering or Geological Technician/Technology Diploma, or equivalent.
- First Aid/CPR (2 day) and/or Wilderness First Aid Certification with CPR/AED (if the latter covers both then WFA is preferred).
- Genuine Prospector Designation (asset).
- Eye Safety Training (Eye Care) (asset).
- Restricted Operator's Certificate (Maritime) DSC Endorsement (asset).
- Degree in Education or Post-Secondary Instructor's Certificate (asset).
Conditions of Acceptance
Acknowledges the requirement for travel. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the College's Travel and Entertainment Policy.
Applicant Information
Course Details: This 2-day course will be scheduled in each of the following regions in Spring/Summer 2026: Eastern, Central, and Western NL. The total hours of work will be 60, with 20 hours per region (inclusive of preparation, delivery, and evaluation). The specific dates and locations will be determined at a later time.
