Salary Information

Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress for students in the Community and Therapeutic Recreation Program at Prince Phillip Drive Campus. 
  • Plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources; provide academic advising for learners and other duties consistent with maintaining quality learner-centered instruction.
  • Assisting with field placement supervision and program related activities off campus may also be required (i.e., Supervised Field Placement, Community involvement in programming, evening/weekend events). 

Screening Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or equivalent with a concentration or major in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Recent, relevant work experience.
  • B.Ed. (Secondary/Post-Secondary), eligibility for membership in an appropriate professional association, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation and teaching experience at the post-secondary level are considered assets.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of the field of Community Recreation Leadership including Therapeutic Recreation as related to anatomy, body movement, fitness, and other elements relating to the therapeutic field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the stakeholders within the field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Organizational and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
    • Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.

  • Acknowledges that courses may be assigned outside the instructor’s regular area of instruction based on their qualifications.
