Salary Information

CG28 - $48,029.80 - $53,180.40 per annum

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food on a large scale for College of the North Atlantic’s Happy Valley-Goose Bay campus cafeteria which also provides meal service for students in residence.
  • Prepare quality meals following standardized procedures according to production schedule and established food safety guidelines.
  • May provide assistance with menu selection and meal planning.
  • Prepare and store food items in accordance with safe food handling practices.
  • Operate and sanitize a variety of cooking equipment.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures.
  • Assist with serving of meals.
  • Monitor inventory and food wastage.
  • Supervise food service staff.
  • Provide training to new hires and apprentices.
  • Other duties associated with the operation of a kitchen may be assigned.

Screening Criteria

  • Journeyperson Certification (Red Seal) as a Cook.
  • Relevant experience preparing and serving food within an institutional/commercial kitchen.  

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of the culinary arts industry including food preparation, service, safety, and sanitation.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a food service team.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational/time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.

Conditions of Offer

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.

  • Acknowledges the requirement for maintaining applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
