Salary Information
CG27 - $46,373.60 - $51,287.60 per annum
Please be advised this position will also receive, from the Department of Education, the provincial Early Learning and Child Care Supplement, which is based on eligibility requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) have a lasting, positive impact on the development of children and provide an essential support for families, communities, and society.
- ECEs support and encourage a child’s development from birth to age six ensuring their health and safety while attending to their physical, emotional and cognitive needs.
- ECEs will participate in curriculum planning and implementation for children while also mentoring students during field practice and lab components of relevant ECE courses.
- Individuals may also be assigned other related duties as it pertains to the ECE’s role.
Screening Criteria
- Must have completed the required coursework to be in possession of, or eligible for, Level I Certification through the Association of Early Childhood Educators Newfoundland and Labrador (AECENL).

- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and legislation.
- Communication skills.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Ability to form relationships with families.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Conditions of Offer
- When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
- Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
- A Criminal Record Check, a Vulnerable Sector Check, current First Aid/CPR, and a copy of updated immunizations deemed satisfactory to the Employer will be required.
Conditions of Acceptance
- Acknowledges the requirement to be available on short notice.
- Willing to accept a physically demanding position.
- Acknowledges the requirement for lifting and moving children weighing up to 50 lbs, as well as sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent basis.
- Acknowledges the requirement for regularly working in an awkward or cramped position, requiring bending and kneeling.
- Acknowledges the requirement to be high alert, with visual and auditory skills to ensure the well being of all children, including those with special needs, in a fast-paced environment.
