I left industry to come to work with CNA about 13 years ago. Although I loved working in industry, and still do, the college provides me with a work-life balance that is unparalleled.
On the professional side, the work we do in the classrooms at CNA is incredibly rewarding and appreciated. The satisfaction of a job well done, much like working in industry, is often immediate gratification and appreciated. You have an opportunity to positively impact the lives of so many people. Opening doors, minds and opportunities for people. It’s quite the feeling.
On the personal side, working at the college has provided me with the flexibility and opportunities to be very involved in my kids' lives as they grow. From coaching minor sports, volunteering at their school activities and attending special events (Christmas concerts, graduation ceremonies, etc.) – I have been there for them and will continue to be. Our campus strongly believes that if we take care of ourselves and each other as employees, then we will be better prepared to take care of our students and clients. I am also supported by my team at the campus to pursue and be actively involved in volunteering opportunities such as coaching, and firefighting, which is invaluable to me and also to the communities and people we both serve.
The vast majority of trades folks don’t leave industry to come to the college for the salary; it’s the quality of life.
