Charlene Brophy is President & CEO of Fonemed, a globally recognized telehealth and virtual care enterprise. Charlene is committed to transforming healthcare access through innovative technologies and collaborative partnerships, ensuring more resilient and sustainable healthcare systems worldwide.
Under her leadership, Fonemed’s team of several hundred employees provides services across Canada, the U.S., Latin America, and Asia, facilitating care for over 40 million individuals globally and managing more than 100,000 remote patient visits each month. Charlene has spearheaded innovations such as the Fonemed Virtual Care Pod, Black Bag, and Mobile Care Cart—portable and accessible solutions designed to bring diagnostics and real-time virtual care directly into communities, homes, and workplaces. Fonemed bridges the gap in healthcare accessibility for communities that would otherwise lack essential services.
Charlene’s achievements have been recognized nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of the CBC Innovator of the Year Award (2017), NLOWE’s Entrepreneurial Excellence Award (2020), and multiple Business Excellence Awards from the St. John’s Board of Trade. She has been named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEOs, and inducted into both the Atlantic Business Magazine Hall of Fame (2021) and the NL Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame (2024). Most recently, she received the Women’s Empowerment Innovation Award in Toronto (2024).
Beyond her professional commitments, Charlene is a tireless advocate for female leadership, actively mentoring and supporting women entrepreneurs as they embark on or consider their entrepreneurial journeys. She also maintains a strong connection to her community, serving on numerous boards and giving back to the country and province that have been crucial pillars of support throughout her career.
