Microcredentials are a form of short training that focuses on a select number of competencies assessed by demonstrable skill or behaviour, followed by issuance of certification to students. These short, concentrated programs are built around industry demand.

How can I earn a microcredential?

Details on each microcredential, including delivery method and required courses, can be found on their respective pages in our Program Guide.

Who are microcredentials for?

  • Anyone!
  • Persons building on an existing skillset to further their career and wish to remain competitive in the job market
  • Persons who need to learn new skills as to stay current in their current job
  • People who have self-taught skills but want validation by an external party
  • People who need flexible learning options and may lack the time for a traditional credential (certificate, diploma, etc.)
  • Persons who have a curiosity to learn a new topic or develop a totally new skillset

What are the benefits of microcredentials?

  1. New skills in less time
Not everyone has the time to commit to a traditional full- or part-time program. Microcredentials let you learn around your busy schedule.
  2. In-demand in business and industry
Our microcredentials have been identified by business and industry as key skills required for success in today’s workplace. Industry reviews our curriculum and endorses the contents of each course.
  3. Focused on skill development
Microcredentials let you target your learning to specific skills. Maybe you’re already a marketing wiz, but you want to get up to date on the latest social media best practices. Perhaps you’re a programming master but want more experience with cloud computing.
Our microcredentials are competency-based and provide learners with an intensive approach to skill development in a particular area. Learners are authentically assessed on each competency and deemed proficient before the badge is awarded.
Whatever your learning needs, the specific training offered by microcredentials lets you build your skill set to keep up with ever-changing workforce demands.
Employers can be confident that microcredential learners are able to perform each task in the course as is required in the workplace.
  4. Preparing for the future of work
As career changes become more common, workers need better lifelong learning options.
Micro-credentials are your opportunity to upskill and reskill for the future of work.
  5. Stackable
Stacking microcredentials refers to the process of enrolling in multiple microcredentials to work towards an overall qualification or specialization. Individual digital badges may stack together to give larger credentials. Some microcredentials will stack to give equivalency for CNA credit courses.
  6. Quality in every course
Every microcredential goes through a rigorous college vetting process to ensure its content is aligned with expectations of business and industry. Microcredentials are reviewed frequently to ensure as business and industry expectations change, so does our course content.
