The Newfoundland and Labrador Transfer Guide lists established transfer-of-credit precedents across the provincial public post-secondary system and is meant to be used alongside other planning resources. It applies to courses/programs taken in the current academic year (September 1 to August 31).

If you completed courses in a previous year (or you've taken a break in studies), transfer credit is normally governed by the Transfer Guide for the year the course was taken-so it's important to confirm details with the institution you plan to enter.

Important: Transfer tables are read from sending institution to receiving institution. Transfers are not necessarily two-way.

How it Works

How credit transfer works

Think of transfer credit as a “sending → receiving” decision. Start by identifying where you took the course(s) (sending institution), then check what the receiving institution will grant credit for.

1) Identify the “sending” school
Where did you complete the course(s)?
2) Choose the “receiving” school
Where do you want the credit to go?
3) Check the transfer listing
Look for your course and the equivalent credit granted.
4) Confirm prerequisites & rules
Always confirm details with the institution involved.
Transfers are not automatically two-way.  A course may transfer from School A → School B, but that does not guarantee School B → School A.  Always check the table where your sending institution is listed.

Start with the institution you plan to enter (the receiving institution). They confirm how your credits apply to a specific program, including prerequisites, minimum grades, and residency requirements.

This is especially important if you've taken courses in a previous year or spread your studies over time.

  • Memorial University (including Grenfell Campus)
  • Marine Institute

Other training pathways exist (e.g., apprenticeship, ABE, private training), but transfer rules can differ.

Search transfer credits (Online Course-by-Course Database)

The Online Course-by-Course Transfer of Credit Database is designed to show transfer information in an interactive format. Transfer arrangements are displayed on a sending → receiving basis, and each record represents one course offered by a “Sending Institution.”

How to read the results table:
  • Column 1: sending course name
  • Column 2: receiving institution
  • Column 3: equivalent transfer course name/number
  • Column 4: comments about the arrangement
If a course isn't listed… it does not necessarily mean transfer credit is unavailable. It may mean there's no formal agreement listed yet, the database hasn't been updated, or the receiving institution considers it on request.

Articulation Agreements

Transfer pathways that support your next step

As part of CNA's commitment to creating clear pathways for further post-secondary education, the College has established articulation agreements (also known as transfer agreements) with partner institutions in Canada and internationally.

These formal agreements outline how eligible students and graduates may transfer program and/or course credits between CNA and partner institutions, which may allow you to continue your studies with advanced standing. Agreements also specify the academic requirements and conditions that apply.

CAS Transfer

CAS Transfer (CNA ↔ Memorial University)

The Comprehensive Arts and Science Transfer (CAS Transfer: College–University) program is a certificate program offered at select CNA campuses and developed through an agreement with Memorial University. It lets students complete a suite of courses that earn credit from both CNA and Memorial, equivalent to a first year of university studies.

Where it's offered:
  • Burin
  • Carbonear
  • Grand Falls-Windsor
  • Happy Valley-Goose Bay
  • Labrador West
Note: In areas of curriculum content and testing methodologies, these courses are identical to Memorial's.
