Thursday, January 17, 2002 - A new Career Employability Services (CES) Centre was opened at College of the North Atlantic's Bay St. George campus on Thursday, building on the CES Web-based system launched in June of last year.

The Career Employment Services Web-based system connects students and graduates of the college with employers all over the world (http://ces.northatlantic.nf.ca). The system provides access to job postings, information on employment programs, and helpful hints on student success skills. Students can also place their resumes and a transcript of their marks on the system to be viewed by employers.

The college is developing CES Centres for all of its campuses. The centres will provide a more accessible location for students and employers to meet, with assistance provided by the Student Services professionals there. The staff at the centre will also build and maintain relationships with business, industry, government departments, and agencies for the purpose of connecting students to jobs.

"One of the main objectives of the Career and Employability Services Centre is to take a proactive approach to employability on behalf of our students. We will work with students to highlight the quality of their skills to prospective employers for the purpose of helping to build bridges to future employment opportunities," says Dorm Chipp, Director of Student Services for College of the North Atlantic.

"Through commitment and teamwork, the Career Employability Services Centre will provide services to both our students and our graduates. The establishment of centres such as this underlines our commitment to supporting student success from the time a student enters the college through to graduation and the attainment of employment."

The CES Centre will be able to assist students by making available such services as counselling related to employment needs, on-campus recruitment, seminars on job search techniques, and the provision of labour market information. The centre will have up-to-date resources for students including computer technology for resume writing and access to the Web-based Career Employment Service.
