November 6, 2001 — College of the North Atlantic will be sending 15 students and two faculty to Donegal County, Ireland from May 7-23, 2002 as part of a Leadership Exchange program. The group will be involved in various outdoor activities and community development projects.
The Leadership Exchange is designed to develop initiative, commitment and team building skills in students at the college. The group will have to raise $30,000 over the next seven months in a series of special events and sponsorship arrangements.
Students from College of the North Atlantic will be hiking and canoeing with students from the Letterkenny Institute of Technology, in Letterkenny, Ireland. They will also be volunteering with several community initiatives located in rural areas in the north west of the Republic of Ireland.
This is the first time the college has sent such a large contingent of students to an international destination. This trip is the result of several initiatives the college has in Ireland. This is a reciprocal event between the two regions. For the past two years the college has been hosting teams of Irish students who come to Western Newfoundland to volunteer and partner with Canadian youth.
