Susan O’Keefe of Pouch Cove was the winner of the CNA hockey jersey autographed by Brett Connolly, a member of Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships. Sporting the jersey, she also accepts a $100 gift-certificate to CNA’s e-store from Neil Moores, Student Development Officer at the Prince Philip Drive campus.

College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Winter Crew has hung up their gear for the season and drawn for a number of giveaways.

The grand prize winner this year was Susan O’Keefe of Pouch Cove. O’Keefe took home a CNA hockey jersey autographed by Brett Connolly – a member of Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships – and a 2010 first round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning. She also received a $100 gift certificate for CNA’s e-store.

“I was excited that I won something,” said O’Keefe, a Business Management Human Resources student at the college’s Prince Philip Drive campus. “We were about to write exams and then I found out I won this – it brought my spirits up I guess you could say.”

The CNA Winter Crew, along with CNA’s mascot Nanuk, handed out prizes at winter carnival events all over the province. Those who didn’t make it to the events still had a chance to win prizes by entering the contest online.

O’Keefe attended the winter carnival activities at Prince Philip Drive, but only entered on the college’s website.

“I entered about three weeks ago I guess. I was on the CNA website one day when I saw the contest,” said O’Keefe.

“I’m a hockey fan. I watch games on TV and I used to go to all of the senior games in my community. We watch the world juniors every year and I know (Connolly) played in that. I didn’t really know who he was before this but I’ll be sure to watch out for him now since I have his signature on my jersey.”

Other contest winners were Alicia Millette of Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario and Shane Broomfield of Happy Valley-Goose Bay ($75 e-store gift certificates); Catherine Peyton of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Duane Penney of Flatrock ($50 e-store gift certificates); while Ashley Simms of Corner Brook, Stephanie Noble of Burlington, Alexandra Courtney of Stephenville, Jonathon Gosse of Shilo, Manitoba and Jessica Tang of Burnaby, British Columbia each took home $25 e-store gift certificates.
