College, economic development associations sign formal agreement
11/8/2010 9:50:51 AM
(L-R) NLREDA Chair Clyde Wells and CNA President Bruce Hollett sign a memorandum of understanding that will see the two groups work more closely to advance economic development across the province.
College of the North Atlantic (CNA) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Economic Development Association (NLREDA) will work even more closely now that they’ve signed a formal memorandum of understanding (MOU).
The MOU puts on paper a relationship that has existed for many years between the college and economic development groups across the province. The agreement sets out guidelines for the partners to explore and promote education and training opportunities and facilitate innovation and applied research activities.
“The signing of this MOU creates a more structured relationship between College of the North Atlantic and the Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Economic Development Association,” said college president Bruce Hollett. “We look forward to developing this relationship for the benefit of our students and future economic development in our province.”
NLREDA president Clyde Wells says the MOU will help create stronger linkages at the community level.
“Our partnership with the college enables NLREDA and its members to increase economic activity by building on provincial capacity and strengthening the relationships between regional economic development boards and local campuses of CNA.”
The main purpose of the agreement is to make it easier for the partners to identify opportunities to work together for their mutual benefit. Hollett says the relationship has unlimited potential for students and communities throughout the province.
“Students and faculty will benefit from opportunities to develop their skills through experiential learning,” he said. “There’s no better way for students to learn than by applying their education in real world situations.”
