CNA Welding student, Kelly Cadwell, was the recipient of the Summer Crew free tuition contest.

Sheila Cadwell of Charlottetown is the grand prize winner of the College of the North Atlantic (CNA) Summer Crew Tuition Giveaway contest.

Cadwell entered her name on the Summer Crew website never thinking she would win, however, she was very surprised when she received the phone call informing her of her good fortune.

“I couldn’t believe it!” stated Cadwell. “I was very surprised. I’m usually on the CNA website quite often and one day after work I noticed the contest. I entered my name and basically forgot about it until I received a call from CNA telling me that I won!”

A recent graduate from College of the North Atlantic’s Adult Basic Education program, Cadwell has moved to the Stephenville area to complete the Personal Care Attendant course and plans to continue her education in the field of nursing. However, since she is a sponsored student, she is giving the prize to her niece who has just enrolled in the welding program at the college’s Labrador West campus.

“I am so happy that my Aunt Sheila is transferring her tuition winnings to me. This is my first year in CNA and I am in the Welding program and I love it so far. I've wanted to learn welding since I was in grade 10,” explained Kelly. “I think it's really great that my aunt is doing this for me; it was nice of her to help me with my education. My family is pretty close, so this takes a lot of stress off of both me and my family knowing that my tuition is paid for.”

There were four runners- up in the tuition contest. Kirstie Lepatourel, of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nikita Howlett of Steady Brook, Deanna Hann of Corner Brook and Matthew Everson from Flat Rock will each be sent a prize pack containing CNA merchandise.
