As of September 1, the college is expanding its Smoke Free Workplace Program to no longer allow smoking on any property operated by College of the North Atlantic.
This includes all campuses, field sites & buildings, office buildings, learning centres – and their parking lots and grounds – occupied by College of the North Atlantic (CNA) within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“We listened to the concerns brought forward by our learners and also engaged in further consultation. A special team was organized to explore the options and provide recommendations. The negative effects of smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke are well documented. We want to ensure a safe and healthy learning and working environment for our learners and employees,” says Jean Madill, president of CNA.
The college has formed a working group to implement the expanded Smoke Free Workplace Program across all 17 CNA campuses in Newfoundland and Labrador. The working group will also be responsible for providing assistance and information on the expanded Smoke Free Workplace Program.
