College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) alumni and advancement department has announced the formation of the Credit Unions of Newfoundland and Labrador Bursary Program. The Nova Scotia Credit Unions Charitable Foundation administers the bursary program on behalf of Newfoundland and Labrador credit unions.

“We are very grateful for the foundation’s donation to the college and the positive effect it will have on the educational experience of our students,” said Corinne Dunne, vice-president of development and college advancement at CNA. “And I would like to thank these individuals who continue to work with us at the various campuses.”

The $3,500 program will consist of seven awards of $500 each, which includes an individual bursary of $500 provided by Public Service Credit Union. These bursaries will be presented to second or third year students enrolled full-time at CNA, who are in good academic standing and demonstrate leadership in community/college life and a determination to succeed. Application details are available at http://www.nscreditunions.ca/bursary.

“This partnership marks the first bursary program offered to students of College of the North Atlantic from credit unions in Newfoundland and Labrador,” states Anne Stephaniuk, executive director of the Nova Scotia Credit Unions Charitable foundation. “It represents a new endeavour for our NL credit unions which expands their significant local community development efforts.”

The Nova Scotia Credit Unions Charitable Foundation was established on November 24, 1998. The foundation’s largest funder is Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia, along with Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador credit unions. Since 2000, the foundation has invested over $500,000 in programs and services across Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
