Gerry Crewe was named Chef of the Year for 2000.

St. John’s, January 19, 2001 - Gerry Crewe, Culinary Arts instructor at the Prince Philip Drive campus of College of the North Atlantic, has been named the winner of the Sam Dealhoy Chef of the Year Award for 2000.

The award, voted on by the members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Chefs and Cooks, is named after the organization’s first ever chair Sam Dealhoy.

Crewe, the president and founding member of the association, won the same award in 1997. He has been teaching the fine art of cooking at the college for the past 29 years, and in that time has trained nearly 1,200 students.

Besides serving as the provincial association’s president (he also served as its treasurer and secretary in the past), Crewe is the chair of the provincial Advisory Board for Commercial Cooking and is a judge for the practical Red Seal cooking exams. He is also currently working with the federal government to develop a national exam and curriculum for cooking courses.
