More and more people are turning to the internet to do their shopping. Is your business ready?

January 8, 2001 - With millions of people around the world now shopping on the Internet, business owners who are not on the world-wide-web may be losing out.

But developing a web-site for your business is only one small step to becoming savvy in the quickly expanding world of e-commerce.

To help entrepreneurs find their niche on the web, College of the North Atlantic has developed a new Electronic Commerce post-diploma program. The program will be available in September 2001 through the College’s Distributed Learning Centre.

“This program is designed to provide students who hold existing diplomas or university degrees with the skills and knowledge required by professionals in the emerging e-commerce marketplace,” says Linda White, Chair of the college’s School of Business, who helped develop the program.

“Students will explore ways organizations can use the internet to expand current marketing strategies, increase sales, market new products and services, provide improved customer service, as well as build new forms of customer value.”

The program focuses on the development and management of an online business including planning, project management, customer relations, marketing research, and online marketing strategies. It also provides an overall introduction to e-commerce transaction systems, security and legal issues, website development, design and analysis.

“The graduates of this program will be able to understand ways that organizations, in particular small- and medium-sized businesses, can effectively adopt e-business success strategies,” says Ms. White.

College of the North Atlantic is Newfoundland and Labrador’s public college. It is one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Canada, offering over 70 full-time programs and more than 300 part-time courses to over 10,000 students.
