The best and the brightest in Eastern Canada gathered in Halifax this week to compete for Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) regional champion titles.

A national charitable organization, ACE teaches and ignites the passions of young Canadians to create brighter futures for themselves and communities.

Three competitions took place during this annual event: two team-based competitions, each divided into two divisions, and one individual competition.

Grand Falls-Windsor campus of College of the North Atlantic (CNA) sent two teams to the competitions. The first team competed in the HSBC Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) financial education challenge, League B, and was selected as second runner-up with a cash prize of $500. St. Francis Xavier University took first runner up and St. Mary’s University declared the winner.

Bay St. George campus also entered one team into the same competition, League A. They took the title of second runner up and a prize of $500 from the regional HSBC SIFE competition. First place was taken by Memorial University and first runner up was awarded to the University of Moncton.

A second team from Grand Falls-Windsor competed in the TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge and was deemed champion and awarded a cash prize of $1,500.

Prince Philip Drive’s Cabot team placed second in the TD SIFE entrepreneurial challenge in League B and was awarded $500; Memorial University took first place. Other teams entered into this division included St. Mary’s University, Universite de Moncton, Nova Scotia Community College-Kings Tec, St. Francis Xavier University, Universite de Sainte-Anne, and Acadia.

As champion, ACE Grand Falls-Windsor will represent Eastern Canada in the final round of competition for the TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge, which will take place at the ACE National Exposition in Toronto from May 12-14, 2008. They will be one of the top six schools in the country competing for a prestigious award.

ACE has over 2,000 student leaders and entrepreneurs in over 50 university and college campuses across Canada. It actively creates partnerships between business and higher education to deliver programming that prepares university and college students to make a meaningful contribution towards a better country, as entrepreneurs and business leaders.

“Each year we are continually amazed at the calibre of student teams and student entrepreneurs who compete in our regional expositions,” says ACE President Amy Harder.

“These are indeed the next generation of business leaders and top entrepreneurs who will make a significant impact on the Canadian economy.”
