CNA Students Organize Winter Games

Clarenville to host inaugural event
The Council of Student Executives (CSE) of the College of the North Atlantic have spent the last several months planning what they hope will be an annual event, the CNA Winter Games, combining several events from previous years.
“In the past, campuses competed in separate volleyball and hockey tournaments, and the volleyball tournament hadn’t materialized in a few years,” said Michael Hickey, President of the CSE. “We decided this year that rather than plan these tournaments separately, we would combine them and include basketball as well.”
Clarenville was chosen as the host location based on the recommendation of Brian Smith, who went on to become the event’s organizer. “For the past several years, Grand Falls-Windsor had been the host community based on its central location,” pointed out Smith, “But I noticed that while it’s central geographically, Clarenville is in closer proximity to more campuses. The CSE agreed that it would make more sense to hold it here.”
Teams across the island are now preparing for the Games, which kicks off with the opening ceremonies at the Clarenville Middle School Complex on March 10 at 6 pm, a venue that will also host the volleyball portion of the weekend, with basketball at the Clarenville High School and hockey at the Clarenville Stadium.
