College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) graduated its first group of students on Wednesday, June 22.

In attendance was Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bin Nasser Al-Missned, CNA-Q’s joint oversight board Chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud Al-Thani, College of Technology Project director, Dr. Latifa Al-Houty, and other Qatari senior officials, as well as Newfoundland and Labrador’s Education Minister The Honourable Tom Hedderson, CNA President Pamela Walsh and new CNA-Q President Dr. Harald Jorch.

The graduating class of 73 received diplomas or certificates in Office Administration, Office Administration (Executive), Programmer Analyst (Business), Computer Support Specialist, Chemical Laboratory Technician, Business Administration (Human Resource Management), Business Administration (Accounting), Business Management (Accounting).

Minister Hedderson was impressed with the quality of the facility and programming at CNA-Q.

“The high standards of College of the North Atlantic-Qatar demonstrate that Newfoundland and Labrador is a player when it comes to international education,” says Hedderson.

“We should be proud that the college has graduated its first class of students in such a short timeframe. Employees in Qatar and here at home deserve to be congratulated because our expertise is clearly serving the State of Qatar well.”

President Walsh says the success and growth of the campus is due largely to the vision and support of the State of Qatar as well as the hard work and commitment of CNA/CNA-Q employees.

“The State of Qatar made the right choice in selecting Newfoundland and Labrador and College of the North Atlantic to deliver post-secondary education to Qatari nationals and other residents of Qatar,” says Walsh.

“Our college system is second to none and, as here in Newfoundland and Labrador, will help the State achieve its social and economic development objectives.”

The campus will operate from its new state-of-the-art facility in September.
