January 31, 2005 – College of the North Atlantic’s Bay St. George Campus is renaming its building at Seal Cove Road, Stephenville Crossing on Thursday, February 3, in honour of former Principal Martin Gallant.

Gallant began as a Carpentry instructor at the building, which first opened as a vocational school in 1963, and by 1966 was appointed Principal of the institution.

In 1977, vocational schools in the Bay St. George area were combined to create one community college, at which time Gallant was appointed Assistant Director. He remained with the institution until 1981, when he retired as Vice President of Administration and Operations.

The renaming ceremony will be open to the public and will have several special guests in attendance. Members of the provincial Social Policy Committee are meeting in Stephenville with CNA campus administrators, and will also participate in the event.

The ceremony will take place at the Stephenville Crossing location at 8 p.m. Thursday evening. All are welcome.
