Exactly 100 per cent of 2004 graduates from College of the North Atlantic’s Medical Radiography program were successful on this year’s national certification exams written in May.

The exams are constructed by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) and can only be taken if the students are enrolled in an accredited program. Students must then pass the exam in order to work in Newfoundland and Labrador and other provinces.

In addition, the program has recently been given an accreditation for the maximum period of six years. The program, which is offered at the college’s Prince Philip Drive campus in St. John’s, will now be accredited until the year 2010.

The Canadian Medical Association (CMA), a group focused on the quality of education programs in the designated health science professions, is responsible for the accreditation assessment. In order to obtain the full six-year accreditation, the program must meet all critical criteria outlined by the CMA. The college’s Medical Radiography program met all 32 criteria in all five requirements.

The program must continue to uphold a certain level of standards for the next six years, in order to sustain its accreditation status.
