Three information technology instructors from College of the North Atlantic received the designation of Information Services Professional (I.S.P.) on Monday, March 15 at a special ceremony held at Corner Brook campus. They join Kevin Morris from Grand Falls-Windsor, and Garry Purcell and Jane Connors from Prince Philip Drive in receiving this designation.

Two of the instructors, Blaine Brake and Glenda Ezekiel, teach at the Corner Brook campus, while the third, Clyde Little, is an instructor at Bay St. George. The designation was bestowed upon them by Sandy Eaton, President of the Viking Chapter of the Canadian Information Technology Society (CIPS).

The I.S.P. designation is the international certification for information technology professionals in Canada. CIPS is the country’s accreditation body for IT programs and faculty credentials.

In making the presentation, Mr. Eaton congratulated the three instructors on their commitment to being professional IT educators.

“By achieving the Information Systems Professional Designation, they have proven that they have met both the educational and experiential requirements of being an Information Systems Professional. This achievement also commits these individuals to the CIPS Code of Ethics and to an ongoing professional development of 300 hours over a three-year period.”

Mr. Eaton also congratulated College of the North Atlantic for its support of these IT instructors while pursuing the I.S.P. designation.

“I believe it shows their commitment to ensuring the quality of the IT programs at the college,” he says.

According to CIPS, holding an I.S.P. designation bolsters credibility, career development opportunities and professional image. The designation ensures that IT professionals are accountable and possess knowledge of the latest technology in the field.

Working with the world's leading information technology professional organizations, CIPS represents the interests of Canadian practitioners in ongoing discussions concerning the harmonization of international IT standards. The council works to determine, develop and maintain the integrity, credibility, and competence of individuals active in the IT field. Employers and clients know that they can expect professional conduct, accountable service, and knowledge of the latest and best practices from every I.S.P. designation holder. Students can rest assured they are getting top quality training from knowledgeable instructors.

The college’s Corner Brook campus is currently accepting applications for two information technology programs: a two-year Computer Support Specialist program and a new three-year Internet Application Developer program which is being offered in response to industry demand.
