March 5, 2004 - Whether you’re a high school student thinking about post-secondary education, a parent of a student considering what to do after high school, or a mature person thinking of upgrading your skills, the information sessions taking place during College Night are of vital importance to you.
College Night will take place on March 18 from 6-9 p.m. at all College of the North Atlantic campuses throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The evening will feature a series of information sessions including: Ways to Fund Your Education, Programs and Services, the Application/Admissions Process, and So They Want to go to College.
Soon-to-be students and those already enrolled in a college or university will find the first session invaluable. Shirley Woodward, the college’s Manager of Student Recruitment and Enrollment Services, says the student loans process has seen some significant changes recently and students will find out about these in that session.
“We will be discussing how and when to apply for a student loan,” she says. “But we’ll also talk about the appeals process, getting assistance for a second program, repaying your loan and how to apply for interest relief.”
“The other sessions are largely focused on our institution. We’ll discuss the programs we offer and where they are available, the entrance requirements, the application process, and so on. In fact, we will even have staff on hand that evening accepting applications,” says Woodward. Those thinking about applying that evening should bring a copy of their high school marks, or if still in high school, their MCP number, as well as the $30 application fee.
While participants will find all sessions informative and interesting, the evening has a special session aimed at parents, spouses and family members of those planning to attend college. It will focus on what college life is like, what parents can expect when their sons and daughters go off to college, and the quality education provided by College of the North Atlantic. There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions.
“This is our first time holding a college-wide event aimed at helping those interested in finding out about, not only the opportunities with our college, but how they can best gain access to and successfully attain a post-secondary education. We expect it will be a huge success and plan to make it an annual event.”
