April 16, 2003 – College of the North Atlantic is pleased to announce its participation in the national in-course awards of the Millennium Excellence Award Program. Administered by the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation, these new scholarships are designed to celebrate the outstanding achievements of undergraduate students and the contributions they make to College of the North Atlantic and our communities.
“Canada’s post-secondary institutions are a fertile ground for the leaders of tomorrow,” said Gérard Veilleux, Chairman of the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation’s Board of Directors. “The Foundation is excited to partner with College of the North Atlantic to help support students who embrace the opportunities afforded them by their campus to develop their interests and abilities, while working to improve the world around them.”
The Foundation established the national in-course awards to recognize and foster academic excellence and active citizenship in upper-year post-secondary students who have demonstrated a commitment to the values of community service, leadership and innovation, and have not already been recognized by these kinds of awards.
Up to 1,200 national in-course awards will be granted annually across Canada, ranging in value from $4,000 to $10,000. The first awards will be given out in September 2003. “The new awards would not be possible without the partnership of Canada’s colleges and universities,” said Franca Gucciardi, Director of the Millennium Excellence Awards Program. College of the North Atlantic will play an integral role in the nomination of national in-course award winners.
“College of the North Atlantic is pleased to partner with the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation to provide such a significant contribution to the education of our students,” says Brian Tobin, Director of Student Services at College of the North Atlantic.
“It is a unique opportunity to acknowledge not only the academic excellence achieved by these students, but to reward the initiative shown in their community involvement.”
