STEPHENVILLE, NL - College of the North Atlantic (CNA) campuses across the province are pleased to announce there were a total of more than 550 annual awards and scholarships, valued at over $450,000, given out during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Elizabeth (Libby) Chaulk, CNA’s Vice President of Student Engagement, says awards and scholarships are a huge help for students.

“In addition to providing financial support to help students with tuition and living costs, winning an award provides a sense of accomplishment, pride and confidence for our students,” Chaulk said. “We take as much pride in giving these designations to students and graduates as they have in receiving them. We know our students work hard year-round to complete their studies, and to assist in easing the financial burden for some is also rewarding. For those about to embark on their new career, listing awards and scholarships will not only enhance their resumes, it will also increase the opportunities to potential employers.”

Funds for the awards and scholarships come from outside donors, which include financial institutions, corporations, local businesses, families, and individuals, as well as via the Faculty and Staff Appeal, which is a collection of donations made by CNA employees.

“The success of CNA’s giving program is demonstrated every year with nearly $500,000 awarded to hundreds of students across all 17 campuses. These contributions continue to play a very important role in student success,” said Anna Peddle, Manager of CNA’s Office of Alumni and Advancement. “While the college continues to provide a low-cost tuition structure, students still need financial supports for many other aspects of college life, and these awards play a significant role in providing debt relief and contributing to overall student success.”

CNA has been presenting scholarships and awards for more than 40 years. Peddle says the work of the Alumni and Advancement office, in conjunction with the local campuses, continues to thrive, as new donors approach the college with their intent to recognize and reward student achievement and form long-lasting partnerships.
