November 8, 2002, Stephenville – Pamela Walsh says she is very pleased with the findings presented in CareerSearch 2002 released today by Sandra Kelly, Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education.
The CareerSearch document, a survey of graduates from the province’s public college system and private training institutions, shows graduates from College of the North Atlantic are finding well paying jobs in their fields of study.
“The findings indicate nearly 80% of our graduates are working – the overwhelming majority of them full-time,” says Walsh, President of College of the North Atlantic.
In terms of income, the report found 77% of public college graduates were earning more than $320 per week. This is excluding graduates of the college’s three-year programs who have an overall employment rate of 88% with 96.8% of them earning better than $320 per week. These employment rates and earnings for the college’s three-year graduates are higher than that for those with bachelor’s degrees.
“The report shows students that a college education is a viable option,” says Walsh.
The college president also notes that better than 80% of the graduates from their one and two-year programs and the entry-level apprenticeship programs have found work within the province, and that a high percentage of them have found work directly related to their education and training.
It is worthy of note that approximately 90% of CNA graduates said they were satisfied with their personal investment of time for class and study, and on average 85% said they were satisfied with their financial investment for their training.
The vast majority of College of the North Atlantic graduates (83.4%) had found employment either prior to graduation or within three months of graduation.
College of the North Atlantic is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only public college. It offers over 90 full-time programs and more than 300 part-time courses to some 10,000 learners annually. It is one of the nation’s leaders in the delivery of distance education and the provision of training for industry.
